What is different?

Raycast already has a substantial free plan, including clipboard history and extensions, and supports action hotkeys. CommandSmith offers another approach: a native Mac app from a small team, with direct shortcuts for recurring actions and integrations developed alongside the app.

Try it on a task you do often

Try Option-Shift-1 for your newest download, or Control-Shift-1 through 9 for recent clipboard entries. Connect Home Assistant in Settings, open the palette, and type ha followed by a light or scene name. These are concrete actions to compare with your current Raycast setup.

These are default shortcuts. You can adjust your setup in Settings. Pasting files depends on the receiving app accepting them.

When Raycast may fit better

Choose Raycast if you depend on its extension store, team features, or paid AI services. CommandSmith does not run Raycast extensions. Optional AI actions use a provider you configure, whose charges are separate from the free app.

What does CommandSmith cost?

CommandSmith is free to download and use, with no app subscription. Launching apps and folders, clipboard history, Downloads paste, and timers do not require an AI API key. Optional AI providers and connected services may charge separately.

Requirements and ongoing development

CommandSmith runs on macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later and requires Accessibility permission for global shortcuts and window actions. Home Assistant needs your instance URL and token; GitHub needs your account token.

A small team actively maintains the app and expands its integrations. We welcome new integration requests. Read the release notes for shipped changes, explore the features, or follow the first-launch guide.
