Download and installation statistics

Automatic download counts

Requests through our latest-download buttons are counted automatically by day and approximate country. These are aggregate request counts: no cookies, installation IDs, IP addresses, or individual download histories are stored for them. They do not measure completed downloads or unique people, and repeated requests can increase the count. Automatic app updates and direct links to versioned files are separate and do not increase this counter. Download aggregates are retained for 395 days.

Installation reporting and opting out

Installation statistics are on by default. To opt out, turn off Share Installation Statistics in CommandSmith Settings → General → Help Improve CommandSmith. Your choice is preserved across updates. This setting controls app reporting; website download counts are separate.

What is sent

While enabled and running, the app sends a random installation ID and app version to commandsmith.app at most once every 24 hours after a successful report. Failed reports may retry hourly. The ID stays the same across updates and is separate from exported settings.

Our server stores that ID, the first and most recent reporting dates, latest app version, and an approximate country supplied by Cloudflare. We use these to estimate participating active installations and their country distribution. An installation is not necessarily one person.

What is not collected

These reports contain no clipboard content, searches, file paths, commands, feature activity, account details, or hardware identifiers. Our statistics database does not store IP addresses. Cloudflare and our hosting infrastructure necessarily handle IP addresses to deliver requests; their operational and security logs are separate from this database.

Retention and control

Installation records are deleted after 395 days without a report. Only first and latest reporting dates are stored, not a history of your activity. Because reports use a stable random ID, we describe them as pseudonymous, not fully anonymous.

Turning the setting off stops future reports, including automatic retries. It does not immediately remove an existing server record, which expires under the retention rule above. The local ID is kept so enabling the setting again does not count the same installation twice. Removing the app's preferences can create a new ID.

The separate Usage Analytics setting in Advanced settings records feature activity locally. Its contents are never included in installation reports.
